THE SEARCH FOR OURSELVES

Saturday October 4

9.30am - 10.30 am

Fremantle Maritime Museum

Can it be true that one of the three most popular uses of the internet is to uncover family history? Why are so many of us interested in our antecedents and what kinds of meaning are we looking for when we seek out and tell these stories? What drives our need to be part of a group, to create sub-cultures, form cults – and to write stories about it? Our panel considers the cultural, sociological and psychological drivers of the quest to know where we come from and where we belong.

With writer and scientist Professor Nikos Athanasou, sociologist Dr Christian Mauri, Professor Sarah Egan and science writer Jane McCredie.
